The Capital City Classic was established in 1991, as a

National Collegiate Athletic Association, (NCAA)

Basketball Tournament to provide a venue for

entertaining the Tallahassee community during the

holiday season, especially for kids under the age of 18.

Today, although tournament participants have changed

from college to high school teams, the focus is still on

the area youth. This year's event has competitive teams

from around the southeastern United States. Local area

teams will be well represented in this year's field.

Proceeds from the Capital City Holiday Classic benefit

the area youth in a variety of ways: Corporate contribu-

tions provide free Tournament admission to a significant

number of kids under the age of 16; thus giving them an

opportunity to take part in a two-day sporting event

during the holidays. During the past several years, the

Capital CIty Classic Foundation, through corporate contribu-

tions, has been able to provide more than 50 scholarships to

graduating high school seniors who would not have been able

to attend college without some sort of financial assistance.
